March 29, 2008 : Our Stallion, Manahawk, passed away :

It is with heavy hearts that we let you know that Manahawk passed away on Saturday March 29th, 2008 at 8 p.m. due to small intestine obstruction/disease. Born on Jan 31, 1994, he was 14 years old.

We were with him from the moment he was born and took his first breath until the day he took his last breath. He went with peace and grace, like the wonderful stallion that he was.

Manny was the son of the Roemer, of Iron Springs. He was a registered Dutch stallion and approved Elite with the AWS. His mother was Wunscha (aka Chessy), a Bolero (Hanoverian) grandaughter.

He won lots of things and did various disciplines from Dressage to Eventing to Foxhunting and hunter pacing. He protected Evelyn from a bear and gave lessons to Carolyn as well as other 14-18 year old young ladies.

He was a dream when on his back, a machine cross country and elegant in the dressage ring. Unfortunately he faced an early retirement from a hind suspensory injury while in a jumping lesson when he slipped in wet rubber footing on a take off. But, he still loved his trail rides around the farm.

He leaves behind him 4 wonderful youngsters, 3 colts and a filly. Talladega is already following in his Father’s winning ways by placing highly at Devon, in the AWS and most recently at the >> Future Event Horse Championships <<. Vegas also earned a 74.75 AWS inspection score and 3rd place last October at the inspection at our farm. Rockingham is his grandmother all over again (Wunscha') and is a great joy for Evelyn.

Manny is buried on the top of the mountain above the house, overlooking the farm and the view of the valley towards Gettysburg. Ironically this spot is beneath the tree where our resident Hawk rests, so over the valley he will soar with wings.

His memory will live in our hearts forever and his blood will live on his beautiful babies.

Pictured above of him soaring over the Prelim Trakehner at Great Meadows. He jumped like he had wings!
